Lehman College

Clinically Rich Bilingual Extension Certificate Grant Program

Lehman College has received a grant for teachers who already hold NYSED certification and would like to add a bilingual extension to their license. They are currently recruiting for the 2023-2024 academic year.

About the program:

  • 1 year-long (July 2023-May 2024; the tentative course schedule is attached)

  • All online (synchronous or asynchronous)

  • The grant covers $300 of $470 per credit in-state tuition (candidates are responsible for the remaining tuition, other fees, books, and the BEA examination fee)

  • Support for the BEA test (Bilingual Education Assessment) is provided

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Full-time certified teachers who are assigned to teach in a bilingual classroom during the 2023-2025 school years

  • Acknowledgement by the school principal confirming the candidate’s placement in a bilingual program for two consecutive years

  • High level of Spanish proficiency (spoken and written)

  • Above 3.0 GPA from Bachelor's or Master's degree

  • Certified teachers with ESOL or foreign language licenses, psychologists, and social workers ARE NOT eligible

The deadline for this year’s application is April 1st. Lehman is interviewing candidates at the moment and has limited space.

Interested candidates can fill in this Google Form and Lehman will contact them shortly for a brief online screening interview to go over the application procedures.

If the candidate is not eligible for this grant but would like to have a Bilingual Extension, they can also consider the traditional Bilingual programs at Lehman College which will hopefully have a fully online option by next fall. For further information about these programs and contact information, please follow this link.
